A recent research conducted by a leading content analytics platform released an interesting report that analyzed brand audience growth cross the main social media platforms, namely, Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram, throughout 2015. The report, examining nearly 27,000 brands across all industries, sought out the average growth of audience for each individual brand on every social media platform.
Based on this report, the theory is that with more people engaging on social media networks on an active basis, a brand’s audience is expected to grow. The short answer from the report is yes. Here are the detailed findings from the analysis:
Across all the social media platforms, brands noticed an annual follower escalation lift of 42% with every year.
Instagram is the one network that saw significant results with a steady increase of audience every month. The report also made it clear that Instagram; growth is twice the growth rate of LinkedIn and three times the growth rate of Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. However, compared to the data collected last year, most brands noticed that their number of followers had doubled.
Facebook implemented an account cleanup in March that proved detrimental to several brands in regards to their Facebook marketing campaign. A number of leading brands lost a considerable amount of followers.
Pinterest’s follower growth showed that it was based more on seasonality. The amount of followers saw an increase during the summer months and then plunged during Fall and again saw an increase during the holiday season.
These findings gleaned from the report isn’t all that surprising, especially in the growth of Instagram as it has been gaining momentum. Plus, visuals are the best way for anyone to follow a brand without the clutter of unwanted words. As far as the future is concerned for brands using social media platforms, the question is being asked if visuals will take the lead ahead of videos, which is gaining remarkable impetus these past few months.
Another platform that has risen in popularity is SnapChat and it will be interesting to see SnapChat’s influence for marketers will be and it is believed that it can change the game for brands in terms of network popularity and social media marketing in the coming months.
